Wondrous Bughouse produces a depiction of how a "Youth Lagoon" might sound. The youthful melodies combined with creator Trevor Powers's gentle vocal style brought to mind a strange "playground-ish" scene the first few times I listened to the album. The album's dark lyrics, however, sharply contrast with the sound and create an interesting mixture. Wondrous Bughouse is Youth Lagoon's second album, and it is significantly more complex than the debut album, The Year of Hibernation, which contains simpler drum beats and clean guitar and keyboard riffs.
