I first read Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger in 10th grade and it was the first teenage angst-y book I'd ever read. Today, it remains on my favorite-books-of-all-time list. At the time, I didn't feel an overall connection with Holden Caulfield (the main character) like many teens do, but I was very entertained by his point of view on how "phony" and "crumby" everything is. Many reviews concentrate on the novel's themes of overcoming alienation and adolescence, but the humor in Holden's descriptions throughout the story is reason enough for me to recommend giving it a read.
